NetLibrary On Demand

A way to buy NetLibrary eBooks and eAudiobooks, based on usage

NetLibrary On Demand is a purchasing model that ensures usage of every eBook and eAudiobook your library acquires. Through this model, your users have an option to view the selected titles but your purchases are made only when a specific title has been accessed between one and three times. NetLibrary On Demand ensures your library purchases only the titles that your users want.

With NetLibrary On Demand, you define your overall collection development strategy and maintain complete control over the types of titles that are made available to your users. You also complete an initial profile for each collection you’d like to make available on an approval basis. Your profile dictates what type of content you’ll make available to your users, based on subject, publishers, LC heading, etc. Each month, new titles that fit your criteria will be added to the pool of titles available to your users. Alternatively, you may submit a custom collection or set title list, or include all NetLibrary® content.

Maintain complete control of your collection

Because you’ve set the overall strategy through your profile, you maintain complete control of your collection. Your users simply select titles from the collection of titles you’ve defined—through their accesses or views. A purchase is made only when a specific title has been accessed between one and three times. The number of triggers that equals a purchase varies by publisher.

If you have a limited budget, you can also set a predefined spending limit. Once you reach your limit, automatic access to new content is disabled. Meanwhile, your users can still access the content that you previously purchased.

Benefits of NetLibrary On Demand

  • Easy acquisition—it’s automatic
  • Proven usage of purchased titles
  • More than 200,000 eBook and eAudiobook titles to choose from

With this model, you can deliver the titles your users are looking for in electronic format and ensure those titles are used. It makes eBook and eAudiobook selection easy, as you can identify usage trends immediately.

How does it work?

It takes only a few steps to get started:

  1. Complete a NetLibrary On Demand profile, along with a terms and conditions form (note that trigger limits are listed on the profile form).
  2. Specify the number of additional copies of a title to be purchased if all purchased copies are already in use.
  3. Add new MARC records to your local catalog.
  4. Promote your new collection.
  5. Someone views or accesses a title 1-3 times, and your library automatically acquires it.
  6. Review usage data periodically to note trends.
  7. Add new content, as needed.

Additionally, your library will be notified about purchases on a monthly basis and payment can be made through an advance deposit or you can choose to receive monthly invoices.
